What if goals are a way of allowing yourself? To expand in possibility from a place of complete contentment. What if the purpose of a goal was to help you fall more deeply in love with life? - Michael Neill
I am a contented daydreamer. I frequently slip into the consciousness of the trees, mountains, rocks, and buildings outside my window. They are collectors of now and say nothing, except sometimes when I'm calm, quiet, and still.
A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world. - Oscar Wilde
I took several courses in commitment and accomplishment. The first of the two most impactful was writing all my commitments, wishes, wants and dreams down on paper. I discovered many opposed each other: different directions, different purposes. When organized, pruned, and put into a time sequence, life got quiet and simple. Six months and then a year later, I was in awe of how many happened without noticing until I looked at the list. That course on "More Time" no longer exists and was replaced by "Mission Control," which turned a single to-do list into Doing Now, Not Doing Now, and Never Doing Now. It is a beautiful way to organize commitments, promises, and goals.
Wonder FULL is in a place of complete contentment. Many courses I have taken are based on Werner's early work on commitment. Steve Hardison style commitment. First, last, and always, commitment is everything commitment. How to turn a pilot light into a blow torch. Lovely, yet missing something.
The change began hearing Werner declare the only point, purpose, reason, or excuse for a commitment, promise, or goal is that it inspires you. No inspiration? Need inspiration? Change it or replace it. My drive to perfection mode ended. Inspiration appears from a space of contentment, which is pure bliss. Available anywhere and always.
And yet, I keep falling into a Dorian Gray mode. I cycle between what I think I am, what the world thinks I am, and what I think I want to be. Each part has Joseph Campbell's hero, villain, and victim characters alternating randomly. I am better at noticing them sooner. Where is the diamond I hide? There is no path. Make one. How?
Fourth grade, I read Matt 7:21 "Not everyone who says to me, `Lord, Lord,' shall enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
Nobody could tell me how. The best advice was to listen to the small voice within.
The soul that does not attach itself solely to the will of God will find neither satisfaction nor sanctification in any other means, however excellent by which it may attempt to gain them. If that which God Himself chooses for you does not content you, from whom do you expect to obtain what you desire? …It is only just, therefore, that the soul that is dissatisfied with the divine action for each present moment should be punished by being unable to find happiness in anything else. - Fr. Jean-Pierre de Caussade
The joy of being, which is the only true happiness, cannot come to you through any form, possession, achievement, person, or event - through anything that happens. That joy cannot come to you - ever. It emanates from the formless dimension within you, from consciousness itself, and thus is one with who you are. - Eckhart Tolle
We all have what we call a free will and a free mind. And this free will and free mind, nobody but nobody can take it from you. It is yours. But there’s a little trick to this free will and free mind. Because this free will and free mind is what holds you prisoner. It’s what keeps you in hell. It’s what keeps you in ignorance. Because you have chosen to use your own free will in this game of life, this illusion, instead of submitting this so called free will to the will of God. Because the will of God in actual fact is the only will that exists. - Sydney Banks
Followers fail. They readily adopt another’s beliefs and cease to think for themselves. Never follow the words of others blindly, or you will take on another person’s reality. You will only hinder your progress by seeking fool’s gold. Use your own common sense. – Sydney Banks
The aim of life is self-development. To realize one's nature perfectly - that is what each of us is here for. …I never approve, or disapprove, of anything now. It is an absurd attitude to take towards life. We are not sent into the world to air our moral prejudices. I never take any notice of what common people say, and I never interfere with what charming people do. - Oscar Wilde
